Excited to try JASP statistics software? Come to this session! Not excited—or maybe feeling a little nervous about statistics in general? No worries, you’ll fit right in with many of my students.
In this session, you'll play an interactive escape room designed to introduce undergraduates to JASP, a free, user-friendly statistical package that integrates with R, but doesn’t require any coding. The activity helps reduce stats anxiety by embedding analysis tasks in a collaborative, low-stakes game. We’ll also discuss how escape rooms and other gamified strategies can support student engagement and make the start of the semester a little less scary—for them and maybe for us, too. And yes, there
will be a fabulous prize for the winning team. (Note: The traditional fabulous prize in my classes is Twinkies)
If you're curious, feel free to download and install JASP in advance at
https://jasp-stats.org—but you definitely don't need to.
